Consumers and service providers asked for better access to AHS services and help finding their way through its many programs. One AHS response is the creation of an online referral tool, the Screen Door (screendoor.vermont.gov).

The Organizations page lists many of the agencies that provide services to the Blind and/or Visually Impaired.

The Jewish Guild for the Blind has created an annual scholarship program for college bound high school students who are legally blind . Applications will be accepted from students at the end of their junior year, with recipients selected and scholarships awarded the following academic year.   The GuildScholar Program will award 12 to15 scholarships of up to $15,000 each.

Motorola offers free alternative format manuals (large print, tape or Braille) for the cell phones that they produce.  The manuals describe how to navigate the phones via tactile and audible feedback.  The web site address is

There is a new site that is geared around adjustment issues.  This site can be found at  The Human Potential To Live With Blindness.

Oregon State University, Science Access Project is looking at alternatives to Braille for teaching mathematics, scientific notation and access to graphs, tables, charts, diagrams, and general object-oriented graphics.
